Upfront and Transparent Pricing

Having been involved in the car business personally since 1977, I can’t tell you how many times a customer has said to me, “Just give me your best price.”  While I know a few folks that actually enjoy playing the negotiating game on cars and trucks, we have found that the overwhelming number don’t.

Therefore, at Thomas, we clearly display the actual selling price of every car we sell right upfront.  What that means is that everyone gets the same great deal and you don’t have to negotiate.  No hassle, no haggling.  Instead, we’ll share with you how we determined the price as well as actual comparisons of prices of similar vehicles, so you can see right there and then how good the price actually is.   If we wouldn’t take great care with our market research when setting the price, we wouldn’t sell many vehicles, so we really have to make sure the upfront prices are very, very competitive.

The practice of negotiation-free selling is growing, but there are still many dealers who try to maximize the price for each vehicle they sell based on the negotiating skills, or lack thereof of their customers.  So when you realize that the price that they are asking is not the actual price, you always have to wonder if you got the best price you could.

Our salespeople are NOT paid a percentage

At most car dealerships, the salespeople are paid a percentage of the profit on the car or truck that you buy.  The problem is that this causes them to want you to pay more for your car, while you want to pay less.  At Thomas dealerships, since we put our prices on the cars upfront, it makes it easy for us to pay our salespeople not on the price you pay, but instead on the number of cars they sell and their customer satisfaction ratings.

Our customers really like this because it allows their salesperson to be more consultative and to work with them, not against them.  Everyone’s goal is to find the right car at the right price that will give the greatest satisfaction.

Now isn’t that refreshing?

Your Feedback Requested

The Thomas Automotive Family has been providing for your personal transportation needs since 1909 and we have found that nothing works better than the plain old truth when communicating whatever information our customers need when it’s time to buy or service your automobile.

That’s the reason we put the actual selling price on all of our cars and trucks and don’t play the back and forth pricing games that are all too common in the car business.  And we work hard to make the buying process both valuable and straight-forward when you visit any of our car stores.

So, now with car buyers spending most of the pre-buy process online, we are striving to make our web presence as easy and straight-forward as our in-store experience.  To do this well, we want to make the information as relevant as possible to you and we are asking you to reach out to us on social media or through this blog and tell us what information you would like to see here.

Season’s Greetings from the Thomas Automotive Family

Customers and friends have asked for the words of our Christmas ad on TV entitled, “Mend A Quarrel” , so here they are:

“This Christmas season, mend a quarrel. Seek out a forgotten friend. Write a love letter. Forgive an enemy. Apologize if you were wrong. Think first of someone else. Laugh a little. Laugh a little more. Express your gratitude. Go to church. Welcome a stranger. Gladden the heart of a child. Enjoy the beauty and wonder of the earth. Speak your love. Speak it again. Speak it still once again. Best wishes for happiest holiday season ever. “

I think we all know that we should act this way all the time, but being imperfect as we are, we’re thankful for the season to bring our lives into more focus on what’s really important.

More on Drive Forever

Most of our used cars sold in Pennsylvania are either factory-certified or come with the Drive Forever Worry Free program.Drive Forever 0113IC_Part2Drive Forever covers the most costly components – your engine and transmission for as long as you own the car.  To keep the coverage valid, your responsibility is just to follow the manufacturer’s recommended service schedule.  It’s that easy and worries over a major repair to your engine and transmission are a thing of the past.

How Long is Forever?

DF logoThe saddest words I hear from someone who just bought a car or truck from us is, “This is the last car I am going to buy.” or almost as sad, “I am going to run the wheels off this truck.”

In reality, the average automobile owner now keeps a car or truck for about 6 years and drives about 15,000 miles per year. The quick math is 90,000 miles.

Also, right now, the average odometer of all the cars and trucks on the road is over 100,000 miles. For this reason, every used car or used truck with under 100,000 miles that we sell in Pennsylvania either comes with Drive Forever or is Factory Certified.

Drive Forever covers the engine and transmission of eligible vehicles for as long as you own it and follow the factory recommended service schedule.

We do not offer Drive Forever at our Maryland dealership, but other worry-free maintenance programs are available.
