Cobalt Ignition Recall
Safety is always our first and greatest concern and the important factor in the Cobalt ignition issue is that the airbags don’t deploy when ignition is in the off or accessory position.
GM is now shipping the replacement parts to dealers under the following process. If your vehicle is covered under the recall or if you are unsure, please call our service departments at either Thomas Chevrolet in Bedford, 814-623-8131 or Thomas Buick-GMC in Johnstown, 814-266-2844. Please have your 17 digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) ready. It can be found on the dashboard by looking through the bottom of the windshield or on the manufacturer’s sticker on the doorjamb.
If the VIN identifies your car as covered by the recall, our parts department will order the replacement parts which will be tagged with your VIN.
The parts are then shipped in the order that they were ordered. As of May 7th, the backlog of orders is approximately three weeks.
When the part tagged with your VIN arrives we program the switch and keys to your vehicle and notify you so you can make an appointment for the repair, which takes approximately one hour.
If you have a covered vehicle and do not want to drive it in the interim, please call our service departments and GM will pay for a loaner, until your parts arrive.
